Don't Forget Your Beneficiary Designations

Life-changing events such as marriage, divorce, and death require a review of the beneficiary designations for life insurance policies, savings and retirement accounts. These types of assets often represent a significant portion of your net worth, but often the update of beneficiary designations is overlooked.

Question for ViaInsurance Agent: Beth Combs

Did you receive a drone for Christmas?

As the owner/operator of a personal use drone, you have risks!  Should your drone fall or cause damage to other’s property, you can be held liable.  Even if it’s a child’s model, there are risks involved. Most insurance carriers now offer a “drone endorsement” for just such exposures.

Don’t take a chance of finding yourself uninsured. Give your homeowner’s agent a call today or contact Beth Combs at 765.662.3700.

Via Credit Union Awards Grants to Six Teachers

Via Credit Union awarded six grants totaling over $2,400 to local teachers for the funding of special classroom projects.  Over the years, ViaCU has funded 74 projects totaling over $31,000 to area teachers.

President/CEO, Dave Abernathy and Warsaw Branch Manager, Tracy Speigle, delivered checks and offered congratulations to each grant recipients.  The Teacher Grants fund innovative classroom projects for which no other funding is available.  “Via Credit Union is proud to fund these projects. School budgets are extremely tight and the grants enable teachers to develop programs that would not exist without this financial help,” said Abernathy.

Grant winners competed with numerous teachers for an opportunity to make their projects come alive in the classroom.  The winning teachers will use the grant money in various ways:

Bradley Benner, Oak Hill High School, will purchase 3D printers that will allow his manufacturing students to create a mockup product that will solve a simple, everyday life problem.

Leah Kilgore, Lincoln Elementary, purchased 3D pens for her Kindergarten students to build and analyze structures for the 3 Little Pigs project.

Christina Stefanatos, Sweetser Elementary, plans to buy equipment for all her students to monitor and record the growth of several herbs and vegetables from seed.

Mallory Thompson, Park Elementary, will use STEM Bins to encourage 1st graders to think like inventors by constructing and creating.

Carla Trible, Eastbrook High School, will purchase materials to capture, identify, observe and tag butterflies for her Biology II class. (Principal, Pat McLaughlin, is pictured accepting check)

Jessica Zickafoose, Converse Elementary, created a robot with her 2nd graders and will now be able to attend local competitions to test their programming skills.
